According to Vladimir Putin on the DNC hack, "Listen, does it even matter who hacked this data?" Yeah, it does!

Courtesy of Bloomberg:

Vladimir Putin said the hacking of thousands of Democratic National Committee emails and documents was a service to the public, but denied U.S. accusations that Russia’s government had anything to do with it.

“Listen, does it even matter who hacked this data?’’ Putin said in an interview at the Pacific port city of Vladivostok on Thursday. “The important thing is the content that was given to the public.’’

“There’s no need to distract the public’s attention from the essence of the problem by raising some minor issues connected with the search for who did it,” Putin said of the DNC breach. “But I want to tell you again, I don’t know anything about it, and on a state level Russia has never done this.”

Okay well that last statement is factually inaccurate as I think we all know that both Russia and America engage in cyber espionage all of the time.

However I found his statement "does it even matter who hacked this data" to be especially troubling as it quite closely reflect the response from Wikileaks, the Republicans, and even some Bernie supporters.

I think the answer to the question does it matter if a foreign government is hacking into the computers of one political party to benefit the other party is fairly clear.

Hell yes!

And in this election cycle the very open manner in which Russia is supporting and even working as a surrogate for the Donald Trump campaign should make the hairs on the back of our necks stand on end.
