Courtesy of The Guardian:
Senator John McCain, a prominent Republican voice on foreign policy, was visibly irked when asked by the Guardian what message Trump had sent to the United Kingdom, one of America’s most enduring allies.
“What do you think the message is? The message is that America doesn’t want to lead,” McCain said, while adding of the rest of the world: “They are not sure of American leadership, whether it be in Siberia or whether it be in Antarctica.”
Asked if America’s standing on the global stage was better under Barack Obama, McCain, a fervent critic of the previous administration’s foreign policy, responded: “As far as American leadership is concerned, yes.”
Well first off this is perhaps the most obvious statement I have heard in weeks.
But secondly this clearly indicates that establishment Republicans are becoming too embarrassed by Trump's shenanigans to even bother to try and defend him in the media anymore.
There most recent defense has been the whole "He's new, and doesn't know any better" defense which is not even good enough to get you out of a speeding ticket much less excuse the kind of missteps that Trump keeps making.
I have a feeling that soon a lot of older Republicans will join McCain and start to take off the gloves when responding to questions about Trump.
I can hardly wait to see the Twitter tantrum THAT inspires.
