President Obama told Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday that he’s “worried” about the future of the Republican Party in light of the rise of presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. President Obama sat down with Fallon on the set of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for an episode that will air in full Thursday.
“The truth is actually I am worried about the Republican Party. And-and I know that sounds– you know– you know what it sounds like,” President Obama said in response to a question about whether he thinks Republicans are happy with their nominee. “You want the Republican nominee to be somebody who could do the job if they win. And you want folks who understand the issues. And where you can sit across the table from them and you have a principled argument. And ultimately can still move the country forward.”
First off let me say that I loved the President's first response to that question about the Republican's being happy with their candidate. Sounds like something I would say.
But secondly his real answer was perfect as well.
You know as a liberal I am always pushing for a liberal agenda and I get frustrated when it either gets blocked by the conservatives or watered down enough to be more palatable to both sides.
But to be honest I realize it is part of the process for folks in Washington with different ideologies and different agendas to work together to help represent ALL of the American people to the best of their abilities.
That is why I raged to hard against the take no prisoners approach of the Teabaggers and part of why I was never a Bernie Bros.
If you demand ideological purity from all of your politicians you will never see one thing accomplished for ANYBODY.
Somehow or another that simple truth seems to be eluding many people these days.
