A member came to our credit union with no job and very poor credit. At the time, her parents' credit was also deteriorating because they cosigned her student loan. We had a very straightforward conversation with her and pointed her toward seeking a job in her career, which she found and with wonderful benefits. Her credit score then was 515 (F) and today is 610 (C). Lafayette Schools Credit Union offers Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University classes, which have helped many of our members get rid of debt, manage their money, and spend and save wisely. She attended and reaped the benefits. Even more important and valuable are the faith she now has in herself and the financial education that she is passing on to her young children. She wrote this letter of thanks:
It has been almost one year since my husband and I completed Financial Peace University. I wanted to compare where we stand today from one year ago.
I am so excited to share with you that my husband and I are almost $14,000 (plus the $42,000 forgiven by Sallie Mae) closer to being debt free! This is such an amazing feeling for me, it is hard to describe. One year ago I was completely upside down, scared and had no income to share with my family.
