The Santee Sioux tribe in South Dakota is planning on opening the nation’s first marijuana resort on its 5,000 acre reservation.
According to the Associated Press, the new enterprise could offer a new money-making model for tribes wanting to expand beyond the casino business. The Santee Sioux hope to make $2 million a month off of their marijuana resort.
Santee Sioux president Anthonoy Reider said, “We want it to be an adult playground, there’s nowhere else in American that has something like this.”
Plans include selling pot in a smoking lounge that includes a nightclub, arcade games, bar, and food service. Eventually, the tribe hopes to add slot machines and an outdoor music venue.
